New study identifies species-level biases in spatial data gaps
June 18, 2016

A new Map of Life associated study now online in GEB and led by Carsten Meyer quantifies the substantial variation in spatial data gaps in mammals species worldwide and identifies key drivers. The geometry of geographic ranges and socioeconomic conditions explain much of the limited coverage and biases in mammal occurrence information. These findings can help prioritize efforts for gap filling and the accounting for biases in spatial biodiversity research.
